London MD Specialist wanted
« on: Nov 27 2009, 10:07 PM »
Hi,

I'm looking for a London based specialist in Meniere's disease.I was diagnosed 18 months ago, given serc and left to get on with it. My attacks are becoming more frequent, violent and completely debilitating. I am paying to see a private consultant but he is a general ENT chap and whilst very nice I'm not sure that he is a specialist and anyway I think it's probably worth getting a 2nd opinion. Does anyone have any suggestions.

Thanks,

Siobhan

Hi Siobhan,
Welcome to the group.
Gerald Brookes at The National Ear Nose and Throat Hospital is supposed to be knowledgable. Also Johnny Harcourt at Charing Cross spoke at the Menieres Conference this year and he seemed good.
I live along way from London but there are others on here who have London consultants so I am sure others will chip in.
You are right that there is good reason to get second opinions from a specialist consultant.
Hope you find some one.
Barbara

Try Mr Valantine at Royal Surrey in Guildford, he has got me sorted with AutoImmune treatment at the moment.

Hi Siobhan and welcome from me too.

It would certainly be worth considering paying for an opinion from an otolaryngologist and the Meniere's Society have a list of consultants nationwide.  You could ring them and ask for a list of the ones in your area, but as Barbara says there's nothing like getting a personal recommendation from other forum members.  I'm sure others will be along soon to advise.

Hi Siobhan

I am under the good care of Prof. Tony Wright at The Royal Throat Nose and Ear Hospital in Grays Inn Road, near Kings Cross.  His secretary is Layla and can be contacted by going through the central number.  He has a great reputation and is a very decent man.

Best wishes

Michael

Thanks so much for all the suggestions and messages of support. As a mother to three young children it's pretty tough going at the moment, so it's good to know that there are people to talk to. I feel really bolstered by your responses.
