Ear Infection
« on: May 15 2011, 10:34 AM »
Hello,
I am new to this forum and also new to ear problems, so please excuse me if this topic has been covered many times, but I need some advice please.
In March this year, I experienced a tremendous pain in the left ear which kept me awake all night. This happened at the same time as I was suffering from a head cold.
I visited the Doctor the next day and he told me that the ear had fluid in it  which was infected.  I was given a course of antibiotics and anti-inflamatory's, etc, which, over the last two month's I have been taking without any improvement. The ear problem improved whilst I was on the treatments, but as soon as I finished, the problem deteriorated again. I was subsequently referred to a specialist, and after the oral medication he gave me failed, he fitted a grommet into my ear last friday (13th May).  This was done without any painkiller's, and was very painful!  Since then my ear has been bleeding, and I have pressure still in my ear which causes the never ending hissing noise! I went back to my Doctor yesterday, and he has given me yet more anti-biotics, as he said the ear was infected.. He also took a swab for analyses.  My Doctor also gave me OFLOCET to put in my ear.  I am wondering if this is a good idea to use the OFLOCET as the Specialist told me to avoid getting water in my ear, but does this apply to OFLOCET as well or not.  I am undecided asto whether to put this in my ear or not.  Has anyone else used OFLOCET after having a grommet fitted for similar reason?
Any advice would be welcome.....
