A moan and some help needed
« on: Mar 04 2013, 09:09 AM »
Hi All
Hope your all well

Went back to work 2 weeks ago which was very difficult but made it through although spend the Sunday in bed with vertigo and sickness, but made it into work on Monday, not such a bad week managed to get a lot done.   BUT this weekend I spend most of Saturday and most of Sunday in bed spinning and throwing up Ė off work again.
Iím going to see my GP who is very nice but not sure that she can help me.  I donít know what else to try?  Iím on serc 16 mg X 3 daily and half Inderal for migraine also ferrous sulphate for recent iron deficient.    I also take lemon bioflavonoids and L Lysine.
I have had two courses of antivirals Acyclovir and they appeared to work really well the last giving me over two years of no symptoms to speak of.  I did try this time but only for a couple of weeks and I wasnít taking them regularly 400 mg X 5 daily.  And to top it all I have an infection in my good ear just finished antibiotics.
Iím constantly off balance and just donít know what to do next Ė my doctors opinion is that because I have been run down (forgot to mention infections at Christmas sinus, ear, chest, and tonsils Ė had antibiotics) that everything else i.e. MD is made worse.  But it doesnít seem to be getting any better, this is probably the worst spell I have had which started around October last year but got really bad just after Christmas.
I may ask for another round of anti-viral, as they did seem to help in the past Ė I donít know what else to try I feel that Iíve gone as far as I can on my own and need the input of a specialist but which one, ENTs have been no help.
Thanks for listening and sorry for the moan and the ramble which probably makes little sense.
Mandy

That sounds really miserable.  I have to admit that if I have any ear or sinus infection, then my MD is much worse and it takes ages to settle down.  You have had such a bad run that it is bound to take a while.

I hope your gp is able to help you.

Thank you for the reply suzygirl.

I have just been to my Dr and she has given me some more Acyclovir.  She also has referred me to ENT because she thinks that the ear infection in my good ear may be C-toma (sorry if the spelling is wrong) which she tells me is a build up of dead skin behind the ear drum and the nerve may be  being squashed.  She said that my ear drum was slightly sucked in  - or it could be that Iím getting MD in my good ear, wont that be great!.

I was wondering if the Acyclovir had helped my MD but the other ear was suffering from this C-Toma and making me dizzy.  The dizziness has been different usually the world spins but recently its been in my head, if that makes any sense what so ever.

Thanks for listening - and any information on how they treat C-Toma would be great

Hey Pups,

C-Toma treatment is surgical. If it's tiny they will usually wait for it to grow a little, but in order to remove it you have to have a mastoidectomy. There is no other treatment for it, but if you have one I strongly suggest to keep your ears as dry as possible and do not use cotton buds at all, in fact, I would suggest this regardless. I've had 3 in the past and having a mastoidectomy next week for exploration, but they're expecting to find another, will see I guess :)

Although the surgery looks dramatic, it's really not and it's never taken me more than 2 weeks to be back to normal post surgery and usually get the OK to go home the same day.

Hope this helps :)

Benny xoxo

Hi Benny
I was just reading one of your posts as I did a search on the site for c-toma).   Youíre  going through a horrendous time at the moment but seem to keep so positive.  I have to say the idea of surgery on my ear scares the heck out of me.  Once the surgery is done does the dizziness go away ?
I really hope that your surgery goes okay Ė thank you for taking the time to reply.
wishing you well

lol Indeed, but really, don't pay too much mind to that. :) Yes, it looks seriously unpleasant, but aside some discomfort after the surgery it's relatively straight forward and recovery time is quick :)
