Learning to Lip Read or BSL
« on: Jun 10 2014, 11:24 AM »

My Meniere's has been pretty mild up until the last few months.  I now have tinnitus in both ears and it ranges from barely there to so loud I think a plane is going to land on the house! :o  I was wondering if anyone has gone as far as learning to lip read or learn British Sign Language yet.  I am getting pretty down about loosing hearing in both ears and in an attempt to empower myself I am looking into what I can do now to help me in the future with hearing loss.  Has anyone got any tips on where to go or which one I should be focusing on whilst I can still hear?

Many thanks

If you look at the Action on Hearing Loss website they will have more information about lip reading classes.  Local colleges quite often do sign language classes.  One of our members has started a lip reading class, they may be along shortly to tell you about it.

Also if you contact your local Occupational Therapy dept they have a hearing therapist who runs lips reading classes and maybe sign language classes.
