Had Steroid Injections today........advice please
« on: Aug 16 2017, 08:19 PM »
So I went for my second lot of steroid injections today having had grommets and first injections in July which I had done under GA.  Today's injection was under a local anaesthetic.

I have to say I've suffered with terrible pain since I left the hospital this afternoon at 14.30!

I only had the right ear done and am due back on the 8th September for the other ear but I'm seriously thinking of not going back!!

Has anyone else experienced pain following steroid injections and if so did it last for long.  It's been nearly 5 hours and despite taking pain killers it's still very uncomfortable!

Advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

I am really sorry I haven't replied sooner. I never experienced any lasting pain after my steroid injections. I hope it didn't last long and you are feeling the benefit.

Thanks for the reply MissCheeva,
Doing ok but as the injections were so painful I've stopped at two in each ear and will see how things go.

So the pain you experianced was after the actual procedure.  I have heard of people having pain during the procedure and that is normally due to the anesthetic not taking effect yet or being administered.  What did your Dr say about it?

Yes, I had intense pain for about 6 hours afterwards, severe earache type pain.
It did wear off but took a while.  The Consultant did say that because of the type of steroid used it can happen.

I don't know which steroid they used for your injections.  I have had two solu Medrol injections with two weeks inbetween and they were both painful.  It  took several hours to wear off but I was OK the next day.         The injections have helped with the dizziness.

Yes I have.

I've only had one significant vertigo attack since which I woke up with at 3am.  It lasted about 45 mins and then left me wiped out for the rest of the day but other than that very little, apart from being off balance at times.  My tinnitus is still as bad as ever though.

I'm seeing my specialist Prof Rea in Leicester in November to discuss surgical options in the hope of controlling my symptoms as I'm still taking over 300mg of serc a day too, along with 5mg of diuretics.

DMJ,
I had Solu Medrol both times and both times were very painful.  The first lot I had were under GA as I also had grommets inserted.
